I am new to this or any metal detecting forum and the sport as well.

I have purchased a tesoro tiger shark to hunt the rivers here in central texas.

However have never done any metal detecting and would love some good tips.

I also am going on a trip through New Mexico and Arizona in 10 days and was hoping to do some nugget hunting.

My tesoro tiger shark is coming with an 8" coil and a clean sweep coil. I am not sure which of these would be better to nugget hunt with.

I also am open to suggestions for more specific but not too expensive gold nugget hunting detectors.. such as the gold bug pro.. etc.

Thank you for any help

Fisher Labs (one of our sponsers) is still showing the basic Gold Bug for $549.......I have one and it works great!!

I thought the Tiger Shark has a hardwired coil like the Sand Shark... meaning the coil is permanently attached to the control box... meaning you won't be able to actually use the CSC. Unless you bought a used one with the changeable coils, which have big problems with water leaking into the coil.

I would be very careful about buying a used tiger/sand shark with the interchangeable coil... a lot of them go bad.

Maybe it's just the sand shark with hardwired coil...
