I'm sure some of you out there already know this and it makes sense when you think about it...The "white" sandy beaches around the pan-handle area of Florida are the result of the Appalachian Mountains eroding over eons of time.
 
Interesting, did not know that.
I live in Birmingham Ala, the foothills of the Appalachians.
Not much sand here, most areas have a shallow layer with plenty of rocks however that have not eroded yet and I don't have time to wait till they do so I use a Lesche to dig with to get them out of the way and just deal with it.
 
We vacationed in Ft Walton Beach last year the sand was very...fluffy. Unlike any other sand in the world. Later we went to a museum and read about the sand and where it came from. Very interesting for sure!
