New Member in Atlanta, Georgia

Welcome from Loganville.

I don't get to that side of town, but I started in the 'tot lots' in county parks. Those are the ones with the wood chips under the swings and climbing structures. It's easy to dig in the chips and easier to cover it back up again.

You will get many ideas from reading the posts about where others found their treasures.

Happy Hunting

Hello, and I might be able to help.

I detect in and around Atlanta fairly regularly.

I've done the larger parks with no problems. And many of the schools. I have done curb strips and other public places. Never had any problems. I even have detected Inman Park and again no problems.

Some things to help:

Dress appropriately.
Pick the right time. (Saturday afternoon at a busy park isn't the right time)
Fill your holes and make them look good.
I don't dig to deep. If I can't get the item with a nice plug the first try and my pinpointer won't find it, I won't go much deeper. Digging piles of dirt in the middle of a park might draw attention.
Act like you belong.
Don't look suspicious and no one will care much.
Don't bring a big shovel. I stick with just a small digger and pouch.

I have found that during the week is the best time to avoid crowds and makes it easier to detect.

So far in almost 5 years of detecting in Georgia in mainly public areas I have not had one person say anything to me other than HI.

Go have fun.
