$500 underwater metal detector

I am a professional diver, but have never gone metal detecting ever in my life. I wanted to buy a detector that was 100% submersible for around $500.00 I'm hoping to find different things that have been dropped by people into the water as well as older, more historical items.

Suggestions?

Buy a used garrett sea hunter ii, look around craigslist, etc.

what about the minelab excaliber 1000? is that a good piece of equipment for under water detecting?

Excal 1000 is a very good machine BUT Good Luck finding a used in good condition for $500. The lowest I have seen them used was around $750-$800. Good Luck.

The exal is presure tested for up to 200 ft under water.
