How many donate to this site ? What do the donations go to , how are they used , are they beneficial to someone ? I don't know.. just curious...

The donations go to running the forum.. we have a dedicated server.. that should answer all your questions.

for those who don't know, running a web site on the Internet requires server space. So if you just rent server space you might get server space on a server that has another client say a porn server that gets slammed with people downloading videos. thus your response time on your web site would thus be extremely slow and upset your clients.

the only way around this is to get a dedicated server. This means you rent a pc box or blade that is 100% yours connected to fiber at the ISP and thus your clients like Friendly MD get good response times. Searches go fast, everything goes fast and everyone is happy.

The ISP (Internet Service Provider) does not provide dedicated servers for free. They used to be quite costly but now are in the range of $60 - $200 per month depending on options you want like privacy, backup, etc. These extras are billed as extras and can add up fast. They will even charge you extra for virus protection. Trust me, your web sites dedicated or not can get viruses just like your home computer.

Instead of asking that kind of question why not just thank the owners and moderators for doing a great job providing a forum that many of us enjoy?

I would also like to add that all the forum moderators and administrators volunteer their time to the forum. We derive no financial benefits for what we do.

Sadly, some people just lack class or even a modicum of politeness...

I doubt the owners or mods are strolling around town in a BMW if that's what your trying to get at.... and even if they were.. good for them.

Donations to the site

No one is forced to or even pressured to contribute to the site , some of us contribute because we really enjoy the forum and benefit from the things we learm. It is there day after day with news , some great finds posted , humor , information from one detector to another , keeping friends all over the country connected. I get far more out of this site than I got out of any metal detecting magazine that i subscribed to .

Actually your post prompted me to contribute and become a supporter. I had taken this fine forum for granted but then realized how much I enjoyed reading a lot of the post from the frequent posters and newbies.

It is truly a great community of like minded people (most of the times) enjoying this great hobby of metal detecting. I am not saying it is replacing clubs, but for some of us we don't have or wish to take the time necessary to join a local club. not knocking clubs, just a personal preference of mine.

Short of a personal metal detecting trainer from Garrett, Whites, Minelab, etc. this is the best way to learn this hobby.

WELL put, this sight is the first thing I check on the internet each morning ,would really miss this site if it was no longer here. Definitely helps reading about others when your weather is snow and cold. I have learned a lot of good detecting tips , and made some really good friends on here.

Actually, this is more my style.

Me thinks the same about fishy guys, especially rappers from MI who metal detect. Maybe that is how they get their bling.
