I have a pair of lightweight walking boots I use when detecting, especially when the ground is hard and the spade takes a bit of pushing in.
I never go barefoot on the beach. It only takes a sharp stone or a piece of glass, and your holiday is ruined.
Shoes with steel toecaps are to be avoided Some boots also have steel strengtheners in the sole.
