This came from a 1741 site of a still standing tavern/house. Known French and Indian War (British/Colonial) troops were there several times for at least a couple of months- skirmishes nearby with Indians, not known if French troops were involved. Also not known if the wooden fort there was ever attacked. Unknown Revolutionary War activity, but a good chance troops at least passed through since this was along a major north-south route. LOTS of Civil War activity from both sides. This is iron, I believe it is a gag loop. I'm not trying to start a gag loop vs. sword hanger discussion I am trying to ID the design on it. The design is on lead which is attached to the loop with a rivet and bent around the edges. Hoping someone will recognize it as a unit insignia of some sort. There is a flower (like a daisy) on top of the fleur-de-lis and it looks like a rope design that comes from behind it and forms a circle on the bottom. Both of these are hard to see in the pics.
