I can hardly believe it. When I saw that eagle on the reverse, I thought I had one of those Seated 20 cent-ers I saw someone post recently. I knew it wasn't a quarter, the size wasn't right. Turns out it's a 1867 Mexican 1 Real. It was deep under a root. Not only does finding the coin seem like a small miracle, the real miracle is that I didn't ding it uncarefuly digging it out from under the root. I don't know much about this coin. If anyone has any history on it, I'd appreciate it. Wonder if they were traded a lot in the early days of Utah statehood?

Also found a toe tap and an old clay marble. Looks like I need to go spend some more time at this site. A couple wheat pennies and 3 bucks in clad rounded out the hunt.
Thanks for looking.

Amazing find! That eagle kind of looks like the one on the Flowing Hair silver coins of the late 1700's.

Super find Tyler. Mexican Silver is about their only coins that held value and not a common dig. Hugh congrats on a rare recovery. I'm sure not common in Utah at all. Trapper

Awesome digging, and congrats on old foreign silver! Beautiful and unique! If only that coin could talk - it’d be fascinating to learn how it got there! The “toe tap” is actually from the other end of the boot, a heel plate - that’s a cool find too. Could well be mid- to late-1800s also! Here’s one that looks a lot like yours which is called Civil War Era:

Civil War Brass Boot Plate

Definitely hit that area some more!!

That's right! A heel plate. Of course. It may be just as old as that silver coin. I appreciate the link and the additional information.

Congrats on the finds. Definitely an area to hunt again.

Sweet silver save Stiffy ! The heel plate is an awesome find as well. Looks to be a great hunt and worthy of a few more trips back there. Good luck Mark
