Got out today for a short couple hour hunt after work in some woods nearby that has been turned into a park. Don't know all the history of the area, but do know I have found several colonial things in the two times I've been there, so I knew there was a chance of a colonial coin popping up at some point. I was hunting a spot I had already been over, and got a tiny bleep while I was going really slow... I almost passed it up, but I brought my coil back over it and it was very faint and it was a midrange signal. I checked the depth and it was reading 7 inches. So of course, I dug a plug. I dug some more dirt out and poked my pinpointer down in the hole. Immediately I saw a round object right on top. It was all blackened and the lighting was bad in the woods, so I thought it was a big flat button. I took a closer look and saw a couple letters and a tiny patch of silver showing! At that point, not being able to see anything else, I knew exactly what it was. A Two Reales! My first 2 reales, have a few 1's and half reales. I got it home and started getting some of the crud off it, and realized it was an early type, and the date was 1721! My new oldest silver from the states by 46 years! So about an hour later I pulled up another big silver, this time it was a 1968 Kennedy half. only 40 percent silver, but i'll take it. Here are some pics, threw in a Washington for size comparison. As you can see it's smaller than a half, but larger than a quarter. much much thinner though.

Nice find!

I lived in Methuen for about 6 years. Trying to think if the park you are talking about is in said town. I didn't have a detector back then so I didn't scrutinize every patch of grass I drive by like I do now.

You guys in the NE kill me with all those old coins! Congrats on an awesome find!
