Anyone on the forum into Slow Food?

I've really been trying to get off the food grid this year. I'm in a CSA, so once a week I get all my fruits and veggies direct from the farmer who grew them. I've been getting all my meat and eggs direct from farmers too.

So far the food has been fresher and tastes better. I've been able to try many foods I never would have bought at a grocery store. And maybe it's just in my head but meat really does taste MUCH better when the animal has been locally raised, pasture fed, and kept off feed lots. No hormones, no antibiotics, and no forklifts in the rear.

It feels good to give my money directly to the people growing / raising my food; to be able to shake their hands and speak with them, to be able to see the very place my foods came from.

I guess this might seem foolish to some... anyway I just figured I'd throw it out there.

With the direction of our food safety, I think this is a good idea. It's pretty amazing that the more advanced our civilization gets, the least advanced our food inspections get.

There was a store close to me that sold beef from an Iowa ranch that had no artificial stuff injected or feed to it, and while it was more expensive, the difference in taste was unbelievable.

Direct from the farm is great... I have noticed (here) that many of the farmers markets (if you check behind the stand) are getting the same fruits and vegetables the supermarket gets.. and selling them as homegrown... really torqued me off... (to put it mildly)..... some were really home grown, but now I always check, and avoid the phonies... and yes, it all tastes better.. RickO
