Seeking suggestions for MD purchase

New here. Looking for suggestions on purchasing a detector. I've no experience.

Initial use: I have a couple homestead sites I'd like to search around. Lots of rusty metal, but I like finding the old implements, tools, hand forged hardware etc.

Second use: Gold. Mainly on land in drywashed gullies. Ability to use in wet areas along (or in ?) creeks would be good too.

Budget? maybe up to $400 or so.

Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

I have to agree with Okie. A used MXT would be a good bet here if you can find one from a reliable source. Other wise you'll have to go for a new one. It takes a detector that is made for gold hunting to more easily find it. If you cannot find a good used MXT or other gold detector I think you'll have to raise your budget. The finding of gold is different than the finding of coins and jewelry.

Try a Bounty Hunter Land Star, good coin machine with a manual ground balance for looking for gold. Should fit your price range as well.

I agree. The MXT would probably serve you the best for what you are planning on doing. Good luck on your quest.

I would agree with the others a used MXT is what you are looking for.
