I have been using the Ace 250 and have primarily used the large elliptical coil that is roughly 8 1/2" X 12" in size. After reading some posts here I decided to try the smaller 6 X 9" coil. My thought is that since there is a a lot of trash in my yard (and I haven't found a lot of old coins which I believe must be there due to the age of the house and the fact that it has always been in my family and hasn't been hunted before me) I would switch. I also figured that this might help with recovery speed after I hit larger iron targets, and might help me to find deeper, older coins if I swing slower. Is my thinking correct?

i really dont have alot of expierence with the smaller coil i found both coils the stock and dd about the same all my silver ive found only been 4 -5 inches so nothing real deep the dd seems to be more of a pinpoint coil to me jmo.let me know sometime ill swing by you can try it out in your yard pm me.

thinking is correct, swing slow in a pattern then switch directions. Dig out iron that jumps to a higher ID and re scan. Either you will find that the nail you dug out created a false high signal about 2 inches off the end of the nail or some other higher signal is near the hole.
Thats what I found in my yard anyway, I was lucky not many pulltabs or bottle caps in my yard.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the info. Skeeter, I'll shoot you a PM sometime when I figure I might be up your way or if I might head to the lake. You are about 1.5 hours from me though, so it might be a bit.

jkbemdavis,
You might want to read the thread where I posted a similar question and got answers from people who had both coils in question.
here it is:

I have the Ace 350 one of the upgrades it has from the previous 250 is it uses the new DD coil. They now make them for the 250 which would be an improvement in itself.
