MontyPython was gracious enough to invite me to come along to one of his permissions. Nice old house in historic part of town. We had a really nice couple of hours unearthing some really cool finds:
Several wheats (some of them really early)
Nice Silver GW
1949 Rosie
1920 Canadian Penny
Buffalo Nickel
And.... I'm quite confident a Sheild Nickel. My first!

MontyPython is going to see if he can get any more detail from it. Look below at my picture and let me know what you think. I see a sheild. The other side, I cant make out any detail at all. Dug a lot of other interesting things too. Old hose nozzles etc..Thanks for looking!

Here is, what I'm sure is, a Shield nickel.

What Stiffwrists fails to mention is that HE did all the great digs! I collected a great amount of nails, pulltabs, etc.

There's a lot to be said about knowing your machine, but there's also something to be said for having a superior machine with a smaller coil AND the experience to dodge the trashy signals.

Further Notes:
Not much more detail could be pulled after a gentle wash and baking powder massage, but the nickel IS a shield nickel after looking up some other reference images. The vertical stripes on the shield are the clearest indicators.

Buffalo Nickel is worn enough that there's no mint date, so no idea how old it is.

The GW Silver and Rosie are both in almost immaculate condition--easily an EF. After a gentle cleaning, tons of the minute details--hair texture, face depth--are clearly visible.

Our earliest wheats were 1912 and 1917. The '17 was in noticeably great shape!

fantastic saves!
Love that shield

Thanks! Finding something for the first time is always a thrill. I thought that it was probably a toasty V nickel, once I ruled out a Buffalo. Then I saw those faint vertical lines.

Nice hunting on what looks like an excellent permission! No doubt that’s a Shield - the “columns” in the shield that are still visible are a dead giveaway - congrats! Absolutely love the shallow depth of field you use on the field shots - gives a cool perspective that really highlights the coins  And awesome that MP was willing to share the site with you!

Good Work Team Utah! Man its good to see some Forum Members getting out on a hunt together! No matter who finds what...its really a cool thing to do when and if possible!

This is typically a solitary Sport engaged by loners.....its a good thing to get together once in a while for a hunt with another like minded Human...a guy could easily go dark and introverted otherwise...like drinking alone, its probably not healthy!...
