Strapped on the trusty 6 inch coil and went out scouting curbstrips this afternoon. This one was adjacent to an old house that had been converted to a multi-unit apartment building. Near the base of a very large tree, about an inch down, I flip out this tiny coin. I thought it was one of those play money coins. I take a closer look and realize it's a 1854 Half Dime!! She isn't very pretty, but boy was I excited! Major bucketlister for me.

That curbstrip just kept giving. My second V nickel ever, 2 Buffalos, a Merc, and some old wheats. A couple cool buttons and an interesting little medallion. (I'm posting that medallion in the "Help Me Id" section too.) It started to rain really hard so I called the hunt short. I will be back to that spot, count on it!

Brings my yearly wheat count to over 300 and silver coins up to 64. What a fun hunt!! Thanks for looking.

Thanks man!! I'll willing to trade this whole hunt for a single 1909 S Indian head. Know anyone who has one?

In-sane. How many feet of curbstrip produced all of those finds?

It was along the side of a large yard. The curbstrip is only maybe 30 yards, but it is almost just as wide. It had a large tree near the street. (Some of the clad came from a curbstrip down the street, but all the old stuff was in that one with the tree)

That's interesting, and has got me rethinking how I identify potential curbstrips.

I always look for old businesses or apartment houses. Mainly because the chance a landowner will have issue with me in "his" curbstrip is lessened. I find that the ones on the busier streets have older targets. Especially ones that have trees with roots on the surface of the sod. If there is no tree, I dig down a little and look for dirt that is dark colored and has LOTS of little roots in it. I'm getting better at recognizing old dirt compared to fill.

Man!! I haven't hit many curb strips but I do believe it's time we started haha. Congrats on the killer finds!

Congratulations and the wonderful finds!! That seated half dime is awesome....if those half-dimes could only "roll" a little closer to the Pacific ocean maybe I could find one:roll:

Cool that your silver/wheat count is almost exactly the same as mine. Great Job!

Congrats on the "V". the Buffalo's, the Merc and on your bucket lister the Seated Half Dime. They sure are tiny coins Tyler and not easy finds. Trapper
