we had a gorgeous fall weekend here and i took advantage of it, considering i didn't get out swinging at all last weekend.
i hit one park this morning for a couple of hours and walked away with just a small handful of clad (42 cents, lol).

i tried the woods behind the house yesterday and this afternoon and didn't do too bad at all! yesterday i nailed large cent number 10 (1901) along with another double-bitted ax head, 2/3's of a pick ax and the usual junk targets.

i hit the same general area again today and was literally swinging for no more than ONE minute when i got a strong penny signal and turned up l/c number 11 (1916). i thought maybe this was going to be a good day for coins in the woods, but only found that one.
i fought my way through the inch+ long thorn bushes to a small brook and found another hatchet! oddly enough, this one still has the handle on it. :?: it was about a foot deep and no more than 4 feet away from the brook and why the wood didn't rot away, i honestly don't know as it seemed to have been there for a long time.
and one really odd little item (bottom right in the main pic), it seems to be brass, is about 6 inches long, an inch wide and has an Indian style pattern on it. there's a small hole in each end as if it were nailed or screwed to something, but i don't know what it was for. i cleaned it up and applied a wee little bit of oil to make the images stand out better. the teepee, the canoe, the camp fire.... along with the details and symbols along the top and bottom of it, it's certainly decorative! and knowing what tends to happen when you straighten out something bent like that, i chose not to try.

main image top to bottom:
2 double bitted axes,
pick ax,
a piece of wood from the brook that the MD picked up (must be a nail in it),
hatchet and piece of another one,
a knife and the remains of a hammer,
on the right a brass knob, a couple of what's-it's, 1916 l/c, a 25 caliber bullet and that Indian strap thing. (and a couple close-ups of it and the hatchet)
and a couple more pics of of some recent finds:
one whopper of a horse shoe (beside my size 12's!) :D
an old lock,
the 1916 l/c and those lovely "little" hawthornes.

thanks for looking,

Pete ;)
