The Americans have landed - to metal detect

More than 60 years ago Americans landed on the fields of East Anglia in their wartime bombers.
And this week a squadron of men from the United States were back on Norfolk soil - but armed with smaller, more peaceful equipment.

That looks like a great opportunity for us yanks to find some really old stuff. Thanks for sharing. I have 2 questions. What is a rape field, and why did the crew count slim down after 9/11?

Whilst reading the first article, I wondered who was funding the trip, but the second article answered my question!

I'm sure there are many here who would gladly spend that sort of money to be a part of a project like that!

Rape is a crop, "Oil seed rape" lots of farmers grow it. The main problem for us is the heavy stubble thats left when it's cropped.

After 9/11, a lot of people got nervous about flying.

MDer's could use some good press like that here in the states. Very nice story, thanks for posting.
