Old maps/toll road

I’ve found a lot of toll locations on old maps. Prior to the government taxing us and using tax money to build roads private companies would make toll locations to cover the cost of constructing and maintaining the roads. I found one of these toll locations prior to detecting. It’s at a choke point in a canyon. There were a lot of broken bottles there and I had no idea why? That would be a great spot to search. I’ve read about gates around me, but haven’t seen any pinpointed on a map
 
Love the photo. The bottles were from frustrated commuters dealing with traffic delays. There's a jackknifed Comstock blocking all lanes...:laughing:
