I purchased a Radius Stainless Steel Spade. I used it a few times before the winter hit. It digs really good. And the plug is perfect. I got it due to the price. It cost me $40. Since then, I noticed the price went up $5 more.
It looks heavy, but it's only heavy duty. It weights around 5lbs. The weird looking handle is for ergonomics. Prevents wrist strain.
I plan on making a sling for it (not sure if that's what you call it). Similar to a rifle that has a leather strap that can be slung over your shoulder.
I found that using a small knife digger is a bit of a pain. It's slow to produce the plug. But with the spade, it's a matter of three steps, and viola, I am already searching. Very fast. And to top it off, the Radius Spade has a really strong and sturdy foot rest.
