A 10kt gold, diamond stud fell into shag carpeting. I want to rent a detector or locate a hobbyist in Fort Worth to search the carpet. Which type if detector is suggested for rental? Any ideas appreciated.

I would suggest using a garrett Pro-Pointer.
It's a small handheld pin-pointer type of detector.
We have many members in yor area, I'm sure someone could help you.

It would be hard to lower the sensitivity enough to search a carpet in the house and still pick up a small target like that. The detector will pick up on the rebar in the foundation. The others are right, use a pinpointer.

Welcome, Shag...lol. Sorry. Use vacume cleaner when you hear a big thud you got it.lol ....sorry I'm ROGUE...good luck.....

That actually isn't a bad idea. A piece of cheese cloth across the hose to trap it.

Quit old post but I was there I would be the best one to find the gold from Shag Rug, I don't think its hard to find.
