Sometimes Mud... not every time though... only if they are larger than 6 inches in diameter... The real big ones I have to lay the scoop and detector down to move them with both hands... 2 foot plus... when you get a signal and its coming from under the boulder.. you move the boulder...

Looks like my beach but the rocks are mostly eight inches wide so I only use a shovel there.

Thanks for sharing.

Glad to see you got a hunt in.

This time of year can be not so good weather/condition wise in your area

TN.. I mainly beach hunt during the winter as long as the temp is around 25 or above... we dress for it... I'm done hunting when the temps are in the low teens.

Its a well built scoop Earl... I'm just spoiled by the weight of the 720i although I would not use it at this beach hunt... I use the beefed up Stavr there.

that is the beach I strained my MCL ligaments and tore my meniscus couldn't hunt for almost 8 months... working was not fun either...

trying to get those rocks back into the holes I dug is what did my leg in.. I remember limping off that beach that day but didn't think anything of it until I finished off the ligaments the next day... I was in extreme pain and had to see the surgeon who suggested physical therapy which thankfully cured my ills after 26 weeks of it...

I can feel your pain Craig, I'm not sure if I tore a miniscus or strained a ligament but my knee is hurting big time-esp when I try to use that leg to fill holes. I'll be seeing an ortho MD soon when I get back.

That was my problem Joe... was sweeping all those rocks back into the holes but I would not stop at that site I pulled like 7 SLQ's from it.. also a lot of barber coins so I paid the price of not being able to detect for months...

How deep are we going for these goodies? Would an aggressive scratcher be more useful in these cobbles and gravel?

Its the same way in the water except they are mingled in with clay like mud... I just rather use a scoop at least I can sometimes catch the target in the scoop.. I couldn't do that with a shovel of pick..

Sound a bit like raking clams, an old NE favorite pastime!
