OOooo, and I took this week off from work!
Looks like I need a little diversion from what I had planned.

The nice tasting morels. Yep I hunt them. This year a bad year for them. Spring very unusual with loads of rain and cold.

It has been too cold here right now. But the next few days it will be close to 70 and rain. That just might make them pop for us as well.

Breaded or not. Fry in butter! Yummy!
Wash the bugs out first.

Yep! Split them lengthwise, soak in salt water for about an hour. (Kills the bugs and rinses them out of the 'shroom.) Saute' them in butter.

Another option; Split, soak and rinse, roll them in a bit of egg, then cracker crumb. Slow fry until lightly crispy. (I wonder how they'd be rolled in Panko crumbs.)

MORELS !?
They should be popping up here this week...
The temps are right, and we're getting those spring time thunder storms,
with the humidity...

My recipe is
crushed saltine crackers, (very fine) mix with Cavender's greek seasoning
slice shrooms length,-wise dip in whipped egg, roll in cracker crums
pan fried in butter till golden brown

Patato buds work well to as a substitute or mixed with cracker crumbs

Bugs= Free Protein

Agreed on the saltwater soak, I slice mine, flour, fry in butter.

I've been frying fish in finely-crushed (rolling pin) saltines, and it's pretty good, so you might try some in it as well (as mentioned above).
