Cold weather hunting

For all those that aren't ready to call it an end to your season,
as old man winter approaches.

Hunting in the much colder temps, & numbing fingers.
Really can cut down on hunting time.
carrying around my Sampson shovel and the cold steel conducting through my gloved hand.
I've duct taped the shaft of my shovel with some foam pipe insulation.
Just thought this might help ...........

add some more tips if you have any.....

I think we had a cold weather hunt post not too long ago, but was more on how it related to the detector.

I may do a forest hunt before freezes up, the leaves make digging easier.
 
I have tried every kind of glove. The more expensive the quicker they rip or get lost. The best I have found is the cheap jersey glove inside playtex heavy duty dish washing gloves.

I'm a fair weather hobbyist, if it's much below freezing I'll wait. We get some cold weather in Springfield, Mo, but we have a lot more 50 degree days than 20.
