Slate pencil, slate pencil tip. Dating back to when there wasn’t as much paper available and pieces of smooth slate were used instead, with the writing instrument also being a piece of slate. They were widely used in schools, factories, on farms and in homes.

Found in plowed field.
Its not metal or graphite or carbon. Has no effect on detector. Its hard like stone, its cold and doesn't write.
This was a surface find where I just also found a 1852 Largie, 1876 I.H.
