This past summer I found this at an old house from 1890. It was found along with a dozen wheat pennies and a 57 Rosie dime...and a german 1 pfenning coin.

The contours of this buckle make me wonder if it is just an old buckle, or was it something military related?

There is a W on one side of it but no other markings that I can see... seems
like I've seen one of these before and imo seems a bit large for a regular belt buckle...thanks for looking...

Quick google search makes me believe that it wasn't a common fashion buckle, and... the groove worn in the front face, from the angle of it , makes me think there's a possibility that something heavy may have been worn on the belt... I dunno, that's why I'm askin you... :lol:c

Just a buckle?

So...the wear is just in one direction and not part of the design such as a guarded tongue design would be , correct ?

Looking on a phone screen so just verifying.

my guess would be a buckle off an old trunk..they usually came in pairs but why keep it if the buckle broke free from the leather strap
