Default Wood piece from a pre 1800 house

Not a dug item, but I was wondering if anyone can Id it. It is from a house pre 1800's. Thanks in advance.

I have seen similar pieces on the ends of rolls of barbed wire. Here is what they use today.

Like ice scratcher was saying what size is it? Can you measure it or put something like a can of pop or a car next to it for size comparison.
