What pelt is this?

Anyone know what type of pelt this is? It has the look and feel of calf but seems too small to be a calf. We found it at a local thrift store so no tags indicating what it is. The "body" is roughly 25" long (longer at the leg portions), about 18" wide, give or take. Thanks in advance.

my guess

is it's the hide of pony. Probably born dead or died within a day or two.:( Just a guess of course. Interesting piece.....Gil
 
It is half of a calf hide, where the rear section back has been removed. What you take to be the legs is actually the straps left which would have been the sides and stomach - too stretchy of leather for whatever they were making from it....
 
Looks like a capybara I'm sure I did not spell it right but they are the largest rodents and related to guinea pigs. but more than likely a calf as stated before.
