WWI or WWII Officers hat pin

How to tell the difference. This is made of bronze. But looking at picture I really not sure what the difference would be. No markings on the back. Thanks for looking. Is it just whats it is made of?

I have been looking at what the internet is calling WWI and WWII officer's hat pins, and the major differences seem to be in the circle of stars at the top. Check out this page.

Bronze would be WW1 through the 20s era.

I don't understand how we came up with WW1 or WW2. They were still used in the 1970's when I was in the USAF.

Nice pin though.
