Hello I am sorta new to detecting, Been lurking on a few other sites for a while. Bit the bullet and bought my wife a bhid300 and me a dfx. we are in florida. Been doing detecting for about a month. Not a lot of luck so far but we are not giving up.

Welcome to the site from Az. So where are you mostly hunting? If it is the beach areas then they maybe hunted to death. You may try some parks, tot lots, and any old abandonded areas. Many people near the coasts stick to beaches because they see someone raking things up there.
