Was hunting in a back yard for a lost Platinum wedding ring and encountered something new (to me): Gopher Wire! This is chicken wire laid on the ground beneath sod. If you've never encountered it, imagine how your detector would react if you scanned a 50x50 foot piece of chain link fence laying on the ground!

My DFX was useless with a Bigfoot or factory coil. Our ProPointer failed too. My daughter's AT Pro with the factory double-D coil did a bit better. I discriminated out all iron, and notched out everything else that wasn't Platinum, and turned sensitivity down pretty far. This game me a pretty reliable signal on a matching ring laid on top of the grass. But when I scanned, I still got a lot of noise. I could find and pinpoint real targets with the AT-PRO, but most of the signals were false. This made hunting the lawn very hard.

ANyone have tips for more successful searching if we ever encounter gopher wire again?
