Just read through the whole thread and at current prices that guy has over 30K in gold alone, and the last post was in Oct 2011. I may be calling my city to ask what they do with the sewage pipe clean outs.

May have to make sure my hepatitis and tetanus shots are in order

It makes sense, people lose rings down sinks, toilets, etc. I agree though, advertising those finds and where he found them is a no-no.

how do they lose it though? I can't imagine... Isn't there a strainer sort of thing covering the sink hole so only water goes thru?

or maybe I'm just not imagining enough

No. Most sink drains are just straight to the sewer. there is a P trap that usually catches stuff like that, but not always. Of course toilets are made to force solids through.

I can't believe that the city would let someone even near that polluted dirt let alone metal detect it. I work for Public Works Dept and our Metro water guys who clean the dirt out our sewers have to wear chemical suits because of all of the posions they encounter in the mud. I hope that someone has their technis shots.

Bottlecap. you're like a lot of us. Spend days and days out detecting and don't find a darn thing. Really frustrating, isn't it?
