I went to the supermarket yesterday and went to the self checkout. Paid for my things with cash and got a blank penny in my change. I don't know if it's a real blank penny or a copper slug. Who would waste time making a copper slug penny?:?:

It has all the appearances of being a mint blank, termed a planchet, ready to strike but for some reason slipped by and made it into circulation. It will work in any machine that takes a regular penny. Since it is not struck, no telling how old it is! Weigh it and compare it to that of a real copper lincoln vs one of those new zincolns. My bet is it is fairly old and is solid copper! I have a couple of these in my coin collection for conversation pieces!

Don't they stamp both sides at the same time. :?: :?:

I think he just has that other penny there for size comparison. If I'm reading this right, then both sides are blank.

Here's another I found online, I think that rim is made when the blank is first punched out from a sheet...
