I collect ball point pens. I'm sure that a lot of you pick up a pen and it refuses to write no matter how hard you press it on the paper. I have found that if you take the smooth cardboard that comes on the back of many items when purchased, the pen will write on them. A few swirls on it and then the pen will write on paper. I keep a small square of the cardboard in my shirt pocket for the times when my pen decides not to write. I don't know if it will work for everyone but it works for me.
