Dug this up the other day while gardening. It is somewhat heavy and made of metal. The bottom section twists around. The other side appears to have a lot of numbers stamped on it but I can't make them out. Any ideas what it could be?

is it hollow or solid on the inside? if hollow, i'm guessing maybe a powder measure. if it's solid, maybe a piece of a micrometer. a close-up of the numbers may help ID it better.

Looks like a lock for a gas meter. The key fit into the hole, you flip a handle, and it expands, releasing one end of the lock (it slips off).

Retired mechanical contractor, if not for that I likely would never have seen one either....unless I didn't pay my gas bill
