Find this for me for Xmas Please

I know nothing of bottles - what makes that one so pricey? I realize it's a combinatin of factors including rarity and condition, color etc. but is it an ultra rare bottle or strange variety etc?

It was totally handblown. thus the pontil mark on the bottom. which would be where a hunk of metal was insterted to act as a 3rd hand.

And the way the lip was rolled and then cut off... and the condition, especially for it's age. Most of these were blown in the late 1700's-early 1800's. so to find one in this age, would be like finding a Bugatti t73 in my garage.....

so rare...

I call B.S on this sorry guys... Looks at the 32 bids. They are all the same person or people trying to get others hyped into buying. All the names are the same a***s, d***f, he is trying to get someone to look and say "Hey look how much that is worth!" it is a glass vase from the depression era max worth about 200 dollars

A: I hope you weren't talking to me or assuming that I would link something that I had on an auction and keep bidding up the price just to draw attention.

B:here's a list of completed similar flasks that have sold:

http://www.ebay.com/csc/Flasks-/891...f=1&_fln=1&_mPrRngCbx=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283

List of flasks not sold yet (some with quite a few bids):

http://www.ebay.com/sch/Flasks-/891...f=1&_fln=1&_mPrRngCbx=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283

if you raise the range from 500-9,000 there are some in that range under completed and still up for auction. Most have bids or will be gone by time auction is over.

And before you call something B.S. at least do your research or know what you're talking about. There are companies like Clevengers that make great reproductions of this style of flask that are worth 50-100 max.
This flask is the real deal. There are people on one of the forums I frequent who know this guy. These people will drop 5k on a bottle like they were buying a pack of gum and gas...

Reread my post I specifically was talking about the auction... when did your name come up? I have been collecting things since I was 12 and that includes old Mason jars and the like. The auction looked bogus so I said my piece. The auctions you listed are going for about 600-800 not 10,000. I never ever get on here to start arguments so dont think that is what I was trying to do...

Yeah dood, don't be having your own opinion!

Don't go by that. I have a few items I have bid on and when I was out bid it does not even show I bid. I contacted e-bay and they said that it was done so no one really knows who bid on it.

Someone really wanted that. The bid went from 2k to 10k!

Which makes it suspicious.

About 6-7 yrs ago I tried auctioning an old sony handycam, a CCD-TR93.

I started at a penny, and expected it would turn $50-80. I was thrilled when it was pushing $100 towards the end of the auction.

In the last few seconds it suddenly jumped to $500. I knew something was "up" and I tried killing the bid, but it came too late.

The bid ultimately turned out to have come from a hijacked account, and the useless little twit decided it would be all kinds of fun to screw over MY stupid video camera auction.

Took about 2 weeks for ebay to release both sides from the auction.

And just to add insult to injury, I never did relist it, and I still have the camera!

Vandals of ANY stripe SUCK!

He's not bidding unopposed. You have to understand ebay's current "automatic bidding" system.

Say john sees the bottle and figures he'd pay up to $2000 for it, but no more. So he places his bid and enters the maximum he's willing to pay, which is $2000.

Let's say that the bottle has a minimum bid of $10. So john's bid is now entered at "$10", even though he's got a max of $2000 on it.

Now fred comes along, sees the $10 bid, and decides to bid $20 on it.
The automatic bidding kicks in, and outbids fred at $21. Then ken sees the auction and bids $100 on the bottle. The automatic bidding now outbids ken at $110. Then wilbur comes along and really wants the bottle bad, so he bids $5000 on it. The automatic bidding kicks in, and john's $2000 is finally outbid by $10.

At this point, the bidding history shows:
J**n $10
J**n $21
J**n $110
W**r $2010

Agreed. I don't see anything fishy. I see a few bidders raising their bids until they give up becasue the previous bidder already put in a higher max bid.

If you look at the top bid in he part I copied the bidder i*** made a bid of 650. on Feb-05 But eBay will only put it down as a 499.99 bid. The next bidder s*** bid 550. On Feb -06 and then ebay will automatically proxy bid for the first bidder ea time the second bidder bids until the second bidder bids higher than the original bidder. You can see where the two biders bid 650.00 and eBay give that to the original bidder i***. What is happening is someone put a max bid on there and the next person keeps bidding higher amounts till the see what the othe person bid. This happens all the time on eBay and it all looks normal. It could still be BS if the seller has friends bid it up for him. There's somewhere that you can help you determine if the birders bid on the sellers items often to try and avoid this kind of trap. I have sold things on eBay that I didn't believe what they went for but I got paid for them and got good feedback so you never know. I hope this helps instead of confusing everyone more.:D

I agree with both ISU and Tom..
Doesn't mean anything is fishy at all..Just looks like the original bidder put in a high proxy bid and it kept getting challenged..

Would I spend 10,000 for a glass bottle ??...Ummm NO , but people have spent that on colored cardboard many times over...They are called baseball cards..

Do I know what I am talking about ??
Well not really, but I have sold probably 25,000+ items on FeeBay :)
