A week or so back someone found a "shield" and asked what he had found. Then 4 or 5 others posted their "shields" but I don't think anyone ever nailed down exactly what they were and how they were used. I found mine today about a foot down in an area that definitely saw Rev. War action....Brandywine. It still has some gilding on it and has two posts on the back. Anyone?

It has two posts. I can only post one picture. Search shield and find EXTREMLY RARE Something or other about 10 posts down and you can read what I'm talking about and see the backs of several. Like I said,it has two posts or stump like bumps.

So when I saw this, I could not help but think that this little guy could sure use that little shield. :D

its called a saddle shield plate/tag. I too have dug a few near celler holes and civil war camps. The ones in the civil war period are larger stamped US or CS. The older ones usually just have a ornate design to them.

Anyways cool find
