How can I decrust this enough to ID it?

As rusty as that piece is I'd bet it's an electrical box knockout

If it's magnetic, it's most likely an electrical box pop out..

Nothing else to see if it's one of those..

Cellrdwellr pulled a steely yesterday that was almost that crusty. Could be one of those but that really is crusty.
