I still have to put the finishing touches on it like sharpen, serrate, paint and put a nice handle media on it.

Thank you.Your right they are sweet dogs. Did you get yours at NGAP? We were gonna go there but we ended up staying local at greyhound angels in pennsauken. I bring him on every hunt. if i get the chance I love letting him go in an open field when im hunting, Literally flies.

wow nice job never even contemplated makin a lesche. i just finished my scoop. need new project when im screwin off at work. now u got me thinkin. about a new digger in between lesche and full size shovel

I envy you guys that can weld! It was probably a trivial task for you to make it, but impressive to me. That thing looks like a champ and I'm looking forward to seeing the final product.

i got the idea from buzz and a video on youtube of how to make this lesche. its gonna be nice to have more control and leverage compared to standard hand diggers. let me know what you come up with. Id like to see your ideas. I will be posting a follow up on this thread when im finish up on this digger. im debating going with slotted or scalloped style of serrations? Any thoughts

Nice looking.
Are you gonna have the sides serrated or leave smooth?

Ive been thinking about doing something similar for cutting deep plugs. When I get it drawn up ill post for comments . But cant wait to see yours completed. Nice

I prefer the Tru Temper style serrations over the standard Lesche. It's much more effective cutting through roots.

For years I have modified shovels for digging in the woods and always made the scalloped type of serrations and they work really well. They are superior root cutters and somewhat self-sharpen with use.

thank you guys for all the compliments. since im dealing with cold rolled steel ill be putting slotted serrations to last longer. i think my metal is too soft to scallop the serrations. Next time im gonna put a 10 degree angle on the handle and use a stainless steel plate for the blade with scalloped serrations. Ill end up giving this one to my brother in law "good luck jack"

Wow, nice tool:shock:

Now you got me thinking about making something as well. I wonder how easy it would be to make something out of 2" or 3" angle from Home Depot. Take a hammer to the back side to flatten it a little more, use grinder to make a pointed end, cut/grind/file in some serrated points and the weld on a piece of 1" round tubing to make into a handle.

Just something that I thought up while looking at your tool.

1/8 " cold rolled. it bends a little and the handle makes it heavy as hell but it does the trick. I would go with stainles next time and a lighter type of metal for the handle also I would try to add very slight fold/grove/bend for support down the middle of the blade.
