Hi, I just got off the phone with ARA, and they said as long as you found the gold while metal detecting that they would be glad to buy it. When you print off the customer application from their website just notate anywhere on the form that you are a metal detector and everything will be just fine.

Yup, I have death with them 5 times already so Ive been in the system for a while. Never had a problem. Im about to send in more gold soon! Just hoping the prices go back up!

How do you death with someone :p:D

I don't think gold is going to hit those $1870 highs anytime soon, but I'm no expert, ofc. Some of those(experts) say that it will probably go to about a 1400 plateau by the end of 2012 Q1, and hover there for most of the year, barring some outragous economic news somewhere in the world.

And thanks for the clarification about ARA, Meteorman!

Oh !!!!! I really need to reread what I wrote before submitting. lol Dealt.

Insane to let anyone know you found it metal detecting. Why would ARA care one way or another. Opening youself up to a red flag and the IRS knocking at your door. Some things are best left unsaid...................................

Well now ara wants you provide a tax ID number, so instead of putting that, you put down that your a metal detectorist and they except it without the tax id. You know who, wont know who you are.

I believe $10K is the threshold for IRS notification in cash transactions, perhaps the same applies with gold sales.

Welcome to the United <<<Deleted by Admin>>> States of Amerika, <<<Deleted by Admin>>>.

It won't be long until the government is going to know every transaction you make.

My understanding is that the folks who run ARA are a family of detectorists and so they are friendly with other detectorists. I think that is way cool!

No system of government is in its actual form and right. Communism, along with socialism, microcosmic totalitarianism, democracy, beaurocracy, etc, all exist to some degree within most advanced societies these days.
I'm sure, sir, that our gov't, unlike, say, North Korea's , has better things to do than to record your every move. Sure, it can be better, but unless you're going to fix the problem....or at least THINK about the big picture, why cry wolf at the hint of any notice of rustle in the woods?
That being said, I apologize to the OP for perpetuating an unnecessary sidebar on an otherwise informational thread.
