Default ??????marbles????????

Ok am I curious? Why is it that I see a lot of people finding marbles. Is it just by chance or is it actually something in the marble that makes it able to be found. ??????

Found my one and only marble next to a piece of sheet metal. It has been 2 years and counting that I haven't found another. I'm pretty sure its chance.

I can’t answer your question but I can tell you that when I go bottle digging I have found lots of marbles. One time I found this tin can and it sounded like it had some coins in it--I looked and it was full of wheaties!!!

I've lost more marbles than I've found...But yeah, they have turned up in holes with old coins, and in a bottle dump I was digging in.

I've found quite a few in old parks, they just happen to be in the same holes. I can still remember when kids would carry coins, marbles, gum, frogs, etc. in their pockets and when playing around, stuff would just pour out. Man, I miss those days.......

Yeah I saw your post goes4ever. Thats what sparked me to ask. I wasn't sure if the older marbles had a mixture of lead in them because of the coloring.

First two marbles I found were in the hole along with some tin foil. The other one I found detecting was around 9 inches deep and it was in the hole with some lead. Another day I went out in my yard to dig a practice hole with my new shovel and down in the dirt was a marble!!! Just lucky I guess! Strange that all the marbles I've found have been in my yard. I've found several of them while bottle digging. Love collecting 'em, they look cool if you put them in jars you've found in bottle dumps.

Likely to be found on farms, fields, wooded areas. Their cheap slingshot ammunition, of consistent size and weight, flight characteristics. You don't always want to use a gun on a farm (scares the livestock), safer for the kids to play with. Pretty easy to find and reuse as well...

I mainly hunt old home sites, and find them all the time.

I think it just boils down to kids carried coins, other metal objects and marbles in their pockets. I know I did 40 some years ago. This forum makes me realize just how much has changed in 52 years. We were always outside spring, summer, fall and winter with our pockets full of stuff we hoarded, treasured or played with. I found a jack(look it up if you don't know, google "playing jacks") the other night and it brought back a flood of memories from a long time ago.

I have a marble that was ALONE in the hole!!!

Happened last summer at a place(c. 1920) right at the edge of the walkway going to the front door. Was using jewelry mode on the ACE250 and thought i was hitting on the re-bar in the concrete, switched to all metal, nothing in the concrete! Pin pointed and dug 9-10 inches and there it was. Was hunting with PaulD( not to active forum member), well he said "I don't think so", when I re-scanned the hole and there was NOTHING, dead silent. He stuck out his bullseyeII and I stuck it in the hole,NOTHING, dead silent!! And yes it was on, I checked and rechecked the hole and the pinpointer!! We couldn't believe it, was CRAZY!!!

I hear there is a small amount of gold in "old" red glass. I don't know, maybe!!??

The King hunts totlots....both in parks and at schools...and kids being kids, bring marbles to those places...either accidentally in their pockets or intentionally to play with them. And they lose them. That's why and where KT finds them!

KT likes to point out that with every one He recovers, He is getting closer to having all His marbles back that He lost when He started this hobby!

Now that's a cool marble. Now I'm gonna have to research old marbles to see what they used to pour into their colors. My ace 250 is very sensitive and I have picked up even the smallest peices of metal.

bottle digging (especially privy sites)=marbles..if it's an old enough privy, handmade marbles which = phat cash. Plus they are colorful and swirly!

Haven't found any MD'ing yet though.
