Default some dumb water hunting questions

well if all goes as planned i shall be getting an excal for christmas
I have two really dumb questions I hope you guys can help me with

I see a lot of the water guys by me with what looks like a screen with a wooden frame with some pool floated along the edges they follow them around I was wondering what they were used for

dumb question two and don't laugh too much
so when using the big long handled scoops the motion you use to scoop is it like a backhoe style motion with the lip coming toward you or more like a bulldozer kinda thing with the lip going forward... I don’t know I was just thinking about this the other day and they both seemed kinda of awkward.

if there are some instructional videos or something floating around let me know haha

Go to the find a buddy section. Maybe you can find someone in your area that is willing to let you tag along and see how things are done before you get your detector. Different types of scoops are used in different areas this could give you a head start and save some money by buying the right equipment for your area.

There is no Excal package. Depending on the dealer your purchased it from they may include extras. The Excal comes with the detector, manual, a free trial to a Treasure mag and a finds bag for your belt. Remember when you get those extras in many cases you paid for them. The new Excal price is $1,349. Don't pay that. Call your sponsors here on Friendly to get the best deal. IMO those extras are junk. I want the lowest price with no freebies. Freebies are not free.

To answer your specific questions:

1. The wooden screen is a floating sieve. Some hunters prefer to scoop and dump into the floating screen and then search. In Florida I do not use it as it is just another thing to get in my way. In calm waters it could serve a purpose. Its a personal prefernce.

2. The scoops for water hunting are more like a big shovel with holes in it so its the same kind of motion as using a shovel.

3. Lastly - there are no dumb questions on Friendly Forum. Ask away!

ps. I could only hope to be so good for Santa to bring me an Excal. Happy Hunting.

Nice gift for yourself. Also, you probably want to pick up a straight shaft setup for the excal. Swinging it in the factory setup way will wear you out in a hurry. You'll be well armed for the task at hand, HH!

I use the floating basket in certain areas to save time, especially when the water is cold and the fingers are stiff. It is too time consuming to try and fish the object out of the scoop (with dive gloves). It is much easier to flip it into the sieve and keep moving. HH!

Sometimes that full scoop gets heavy shaking it all day so those home made sieves cut down on time and energy. Ive seen some of the ole timers using the plastic round gold sifters with water wings tied on. Very light and does a great job. But.... they do tend to get in the way. I use my scoop like a shovel.... unless you are scrapping targets not so deep the other method would take a lot more strength to do all day.

Nice Santa.... but id think that could get you 10 years on the black list with poo in a box lol. Two people you keep happy Santa.... and the wife.
