Default Anyone Know Jewelry?

Don't have a picture but I think a description should suffice. I found a man's wedding band in my own yard about eight years back. Now the marking inside says nothing but "Solid Gold". I know its fairly old, the house has been here since about 1915. The marking gets me-when was solid gold used as a mark?
It was obviously lost when someone was burning trash and went through quite a few fires before I found it. I'm not interested in it's worth, just trying to give it an approximate date.

Hidin

I googled what you posted and even though the ring says "solid gold" it can be any of the different carats I saw 10k sold gold marking as well as 14 and 18k.. I think your best bet is to take it to a dealer who buys gold and have it acid tested.

Thanks. I figured it could be just about anything too, including a complete fake. : ) Solid gold seems to be such a vague marking. Maybe one of these days I'll have it tested.

What I would really like to know is if it ended up in the trash burn by accident or on purpose. I can just picture an angry husband or wife throwing it there out of spite!

the term solid gold on your ring could've have been loosely used in those days to state it was made of gold. But I would imagine the gold is made up with some other minerals. for it to be pure gold, it has to be 24 carat.
