Default First hunt after Irene

Tonight, I went to the beach once I saw that it stopped raining and the winds died down some around my area. Once I got to the beach it was another story, I'd estimate the winds were about 30 mph or so, there were many people at the beach goofing around, some trying to walk into the wind and getting blown back, taking silly pictures, flying kites, recording the waves and sand blowing with camcorders etc.. so I had plenty of company. The beach was more sanded in than before the storm. I found a bunch of trash, 80 cents, and a small but nice looking silver earring with tiny black and white stones. Hopefully this tiny silver I found is the start to another silver and gold streak. I hope all of the members of this forum and their families are safe, and handled the storm well. Steve

Nice hunt Steve... you must have missed out on most of the storm.. the backside has been almost as bad as the front here with high winds still blowing up to 50mph at this hour...

way to go!
the storm isn't any near as bad here, but there's still enough wind and the high tides to help with the beach hunting. i'll know for sure in the morning, lol.

Wife and drove from Salisbury beach north to Wallis Sands and the story looked the same everywhere - more sand on the beaches than before Irene.

Oh well - at least I won't be wasting a vacation day tomorrow.

Hit the beach here in Delaware today! Irene was sort of a wannabe hurricane for us. The beaches are flat no cuts. By late afternoon the sun was shining and I was greeted by the sight of bikinis! Yes the ladies around here take their tanning seriously! As I walked down the beach I must have spotted about 8 other people with detectors! Almost all high end machines, however no one in the water detecting? The tide was just starting to come back in. I managed some clad and a bunch of junk! The highlight was my 7 yr old boy digging deep for a quarter! It was every bit of 8 inches in the sand! The next one was laying on top! Hope to find some of that bling one day! Hope to try a more touristy beach tomorrow!

Thanks guys, from everything I've been hearing and reading about, it seems like the majority of beaches got sanded in. Maybe all the wave action will stir up some stuff in the water and people will be finding better stuff in the days to come.

i just got back from the beach and didn't even turn the MD on. the swells and storm surge were still too high and there was barely enough sand left to even stand on. i'm guessing about 1 1/2 to 2 feet of sand GONE and nothing left but rocks. i don't doubt that maybe some stuff could easily be fetched up in the rocks, but the water was too high to even try. maybe a bit later on in the week.
oh well, it was still a nice drive and a beautiful morning... for watching the waves, lol.

Pete
