Default 1880 Morgan Dollars

Well I did not dig these up, but they did just fall into my hands today....
I was talking to my grandma at Easter lunch today about Mding and she tells me I didnt know you were into coin collecting... shes says..I just sold $27.00face of silver coins last week!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have loved to have gone through them (or buy them all) as im guessing there was some coins in there worth more than melt...all she got was melt price on them... im sure the coin shop got some keepers in that mix for sure...Anyway she says I kept a few of the "good" coins for you and your sister...she tells me to pick a hand and I do...out comes these 3 coins... My sister gets the other 2 Morgan dollars and a peace dollar?! (im going to try and buy them from her since shes the type that would rather have the cash!) Anway when I get home i see the one says 1880 and cc on the back. The one in the setting is 1879 O mint mark..and the other 1880 is a no mark.I was so glad she did not give them to the coin shop for melt price! What a nice gift...

It looks like the 1880cc is kind of rare?!? What about the coin in the setting? I would like to know more about them if anyone has any knowledge on this coin setting or the CC mint mark- I would love to hear your $0.2 ..

Thanks!

Hope your Grandma didn't sell a whole bunch of those Carson City Morgans for melt value!

Your 1880 CC is nice, they only made 591,000 of em'. There's several varieties but I can't tell which you've got from the pictures. Regardless of which variety, the Red Book has em going in Very Fine-20 condition for starting at $185. But yours is probably a grade below VF.

The other two are common dates.

She said the coins she cashed in were mostley "old dimes" and she pulled the few peace dollars and morgans out for us "kids"

My sister just laughed when I told her I would buy her 2 Morgans and peace dollar from her...and said I could have them of course
Now I cant wait to see what year/mint the other 2 morgans Ill be acquiring are. I know the peace dollar was a 1927..I think the Morgans are just gorgeous coins and are currently my favorite-in my growing collection...

Thanks for the info and + feedback...I guess it can pay off to tell your family and friends about your hobby or collection(s) as they may be able to help you out!
