Default Need a new coil for Minelab

I have the stock 9" 7.5khz frequency on my X-Terra 70 right now and I want something that will hit better on gold and have better target separation. I am thinking about the 5x10 and 10" high frequency coils, which one would you recommend?

Thanks

Only coil I ever had/used with the Xterra was the 18.75 concentric. If there was a nickel 8-9 feet away it would yank your arm over to try and get it! I remember how my nickel count went through the roof with that thing. When it locked onto a 12 (I think is was 12?) it was ALWAYS a nickel. Still hit great on deep silver. But gold (and slaw for that matter) would light that thing up. Now I almost talked myself back into getting another. I miss that thing... Would love to try the 5x10 DD.

I wish I had gold nuggets in Minnesota but I wouldn't know where to look. I'm basically talking gold jewelry on beaches and in parks and tot lots.

Hmm, it sounds a lot better than the 7.5khz coil. I definitely think that it has to do with the frequency, I definitely need a 18.75 coil now.

WOw thats insane, I would definitely think you would have got some gold with all those nickels, all 14k gold rings I have tested ring up as either a 10 or 12 on my X-Terra 70 and I'm sure the High frequency coil would dominate the gold rings.

I didn't have it long but I got it specifically for urban gold prospecting. I think I found a smashed gold ring with it? Found several gold items with lower frequency Tesoros. Sold Xterra, Cortes and all the gold I found with them to buy an Etrac. Haven't found any gold since.

I have found 2 gold items so far and I think there is a lot more to be found in my area I just need to upgrade my coil because I'm going to hit the beaches for gold almost every night this summer.

There is no "magic" frequency for gold. The advantage of a high frequency coil will enable the coil to hit small gold which is more common than huge multi-ounce nuggets you see on the covers of Treasure magazines......the drawback is that high frequencies tend to miss some of the large silver targets.....take your pick.

Yeah, I would rather be finding small gold I think. My plan is going to be to go over everything with the coil I have, and then finely go over it with the new 5x10 coil to make sure I got everything. I will have plenty of time in the next month to do so.

It's great for everything. If you want small small gold, you'll have to pan for that.

I mean small gold rings/ear rings/chains. There is no where to prospect around here that I know of.

I have a hunting friend that wears out all kinds of stuff with the 705 and 3 khz coil. Earrings, rings big and small, necklaces, a coin shooter elite she is also. The thing is as with most all detectors. To get stuff like you want, golden items and such and silver big and small you have to just about dig it all. Forget about the TID. For small nuggets you have use something specialized although with a different coil her machine will do it. If you are not nugget hunting.................It's a killer combinationIn her hands anyway........................

I usually dig only consistent numbers regardless of what number on the TID it is. Lets say I keep hitting a 22 to a 24 I DIG IT. I usually don't dig the numbers that bounce around like crazy because its 98% trash lets just say and 100% trash in my testing. I have tested rings that have been gold and silver and they always consistently ring up as any 2 given numbers. For example a 14k gold ring will hit 10 - 12 always. A 10k class ring will hit 24 - 26 consistently. I just want a DD coil for better separation and maybe to pick up a few more gold items. My machine usually ends up around the low teens to mid 20's when I automatic ground balance so that means it has fairly high mineralization so I believe a higher frequency DD coil will help me a lot more than the 9" 7.5 concentric.
