Default XLT + 4x6 DD = False depth ?

Howdy, folks..Any XLT users have the 4x6DD shooter ? Is it normal for the depth to be a bit off? By off, I mean depth showing deeper than the actual target is. My V3i has a coil selection menu..Is there something similar for the XLT that I'm missing, or is it just a "connect & go" sorta' deal. If so, are there any tweaks to make it more accurate? Thank you kindly for any & all input.

Most detector models with depth indication are calibrated to produce reasonably accurate results on coin sized targets while using their standard coil. In the case of the XLT that is the 950 coil. With the 4X6 DD, it will tell you that the target is deeper than what it really is.

Thank you for confirming that, Rudy ! Other than that, should the coil function fairly normal without any tweaks to my current settings ?

You might even be able to tweak up the gain and sensitivity and still have the detector be stable.

I can confirm that as well, having the XLT and the 4x6. It's normal

4X6 "shooter" type coils are very effective in heavily trashed areas. However, you'll have to slow way down and hunt smaller areas thoroughly to get the most success. It's very easy to swing the small coil over good target so quickly that you pass it and have to find it again to pinpoint, which, by the way is surgical compared to large coils.

Excellent tip, BarberBill !...I'm going to have to remind myself of that when I have the chance to do a proper hunt on my next outing. It's been stock coils for me on all my machines til now. I have a 6x10 for the V3i, and think I'll keep these coils on the majority of the time. I'll leave the stock coil on the AT Pro for the open, cleaner terrain. Trifecta in place ! Thanks again for your time, gang !

I didnt know I even had the choice to use a different coil on the XLT, never got that far with it but have used all the coils on the DFX, nothing will work like the stock 9.5. I got all mine from stories of finds, sold them as quick as I attached them, good buy none have a nice day. HOwever never had a problem with pinpointing with the XLT or DFX now with the 12" anything 3" and up I have a hard time locating but 5" and below right on the money....

Want to sell that XLT?
