Default Shotshell Headstamp

Found another headstamp last weekend on a farmhouse site roughly dated as 1900 to 1940's occupation. Any ideas regarding age on this one? Also found a '41 Wheat.

Thanks again and happy hunting.

I think from 1911-1934.

That would be a nice old find, cambria09. You should PM turtlefoot. He's the shotshell guru on this Forum.

TerryETex is right with the date range when when Rem-UMC was around before being absorbed by DuPont. DuPont continued to use the Rem-UMC headstamp until at least the mid 1950's. Getting a tight date range for this headstamp is going to be very hard. As TerryETex noted, 1911 will be the earliest date this headstamp could be from. Since the farmsite will date to 1940 or so, the best I can give is 1911-1940's (especially since you found a 1941 Wheatie). If you find another headstamp of a different type, I might possibly be able to narrow it down (by association). Every example that I have in my collection, plus all that I have seen online look pretty much the same. There are some primer variations and I have one example that is steel lined.

That is a nice find.

nyjrbethelct - Thanks for the vote of confidence. I appreciate it.

Doug
