Mine does that now and then - but usually over really trashy picnic areas. In cleaner areas it still bounces, but not as much.

Hey - welcome to the forum!

You most likely have the sensitivity control set too high.

The first sign of too much sensitivity on the IDX, is the jumping around of the display, than the audio goes nuts.

Set it back to the pre-set, and/or try it in a different location.

Thanks Mr. Bill. Next time I use it I'll try lowering it some more. Would adding a manual ground-balance control help stabilize this?

Not unless the ground balance was so far out of whack the detector wasn't performing at all. I doubt this is the case.

I would recommend these settings.

Black Sand/Regular: Set in regular mode.

Discriminator: Set at first pre-set coming up from full counter clockwise position.

Sensitivity: Pre-set

Frequency: Set fully clockwise.

Batteries: Be sure that they are fresh.

These setting should get things working for you well.

Bill
