Default Short scoop turned Long handled scoop

So I saw a lot of people lately talking about these scoops and I purchased two of these on ebay. They're short handled scoops so I decided to make them long handled scoops. Here it is...

Pop the handle off.

Cut desired length of 1/2" conduit EMT pipe to suit your needs/height.

I added a concrete screw anchor inside it, cranked it down to add another 2 inches to it and taped over the screw and bulked up the conduit for a tight snug fit inside the existing handle of the scoop. I added the anchor to add weight to the bottom of the new handle to help direct and balance the weight of the handle within the scoop.

Fit in pipe. Make sure the tape is on there good and make sure it's JUST snug enough to be tight. The tape I used is NOT duct tape, but gaffers tape. Duct tape could work, but in my opinion, duct tape is not the best option as it is slick on the back side of the tape. Gaffers tape is textured for easy grip.

Slide new shaft in place and mark where the handle of the scoop meets new shaft at your desired length. You will add more tape here to tighten the shaft in place.

Make sure you do all adjustments before sliding into existing scoop handle. Once in place it won't be easy to remove. I applied enough tape to require a hammer to knock the new shaft in the existing scoop handle.

Reapply rubber grip handle to your new shaft and use liquid nails or some sort of glue. If need be, use more tape to get a snug fit before gluing it to tape. Gaffer's tape is water resistant and works in all conditions, even high heat. It's what we use on movie sets and everything else.

Finish product. Light weight and works great! Hey, for a total of $30 for the scoop purchased on ebay and conduit pipe... NOT BAD!
