Default Using Small COil

I have a Fisher F2....and I got the small 4" coil with it also in the package deal...."sniper coil" I guess you would call it.

ANyway, was at a site today...old farm with foundations left from buildings......buildings have bee torn down.....I dug a TON of nails.....used my standard coil that came with F2.

I was wondering if the smaller coil would be of value here....I stuck with the big coil figuring I was going to dig everything anyway...but if I try the small coil could that help me locate coins in between all the junk that is around....

Looking for some advice and understanding on this....since I am a newbie....thanks!!!!!

Small coil would help you be a little more selective about targets, but you might also want to remove as much trash, aka nails, as possible as they can be masking good targets.

Small coils generally don't go as deep as larger coils, but they are great in areas with a lot of trash and allow you to get closer to trees, bushes, etc......

If you are planning on digging everything the smaller coil will allow you to seperate the targets better which in turn will save you a lil frustration when you dig.Instead of having a couple of targets under your coil, youshould have 1(hopefully).Once you clean everything up a lil, come back with a bigger coil to get at the deeper targets.BTW,I love my 4x6 coil.

You have a better chance of "picking out" targets with the smaller coil. Just don't get frustrated and try to cover too large of an area. Work slowly and use high discrimination and you can "cherry pick" coins from the trashy areas.

Small coils are great for surgically picking out good targets in trashy areas. You do give up some depth and work with less coverage of course. I've found it is best to slow down my swing when using small coils and to work a small area at a time, thoroughly. They're also able to detect much closer to metal fences, playground equipment etc.
