Places to Hunt Dallas/Fort Worth Area

I have been wanting to get into metal detecting for many years.

I live/work in the mid-cities area (Arlington/Grand Prairie) and am curious as to local laws for the various cities and suburbs in this area.

I have been doing alot of reading from what I can find on this site and understand state parks and those managed by corps of engineers but it would seem you need to check with each suburb as each has its own rules for MDing city parks.

What about school grounds during non-school hours?

I am interested in feedback from any veterans in the area that might be able to guide me on where I can and cannot search in order to keep myself out of trouble.

I just got into the hobby, myself. I live in far North Carrollton. I called City Hall for The Colony and Frisco and was told that metal detecting was legal in City parks, but no digging. Also, since I live very close to Lake Lewisville, I made inquiries about the lake shores. I was told you have to get a permit from the Corps of Engineers. I'm looking for hunting buddies, so let me know if you want to go hunting.

Loxlie....The Colony and Frisco are in their own lil' world...Yes for the Lake you are required to get a permit.....Some of the other surrounding city parks you should have no problem...If it's not listed as a no-no on their website it fair game...

Didn't really find much Saturday. A fishing weight, lots of tabs. Found a little charm for my wife's bracelet, though! Nothing expensive, but she was happy. Looking forward to getting back out this week if the weather holds.
